Carly Koenig MA, NCC

Hi! I'm Carly, I'm a counselor located in Philadelphia, PA. I hold a masters in Clinical and Mental Health Counseling and I am a National Certified Counselor. I find beauty in shared space, where stories can be unravelled, patterns and wounds can be explored, and hope, peace, and change can take root.
I entered into this field after realizing I had made a habit of sitting with people in moments of crisis, confusion, and numbness–longing for someone to hold hope with them. Through extensive study, training, and lived experience, I've gained tools for navigating those moments with people, that have equipped to me to better support the specific needs of those I walk alongside.
Beyond the therapy room I enjoy spending time cooking and serving up good food to friends and family, growing an ever-expanding garden, traveling, sipping cortados, and trying on new hobbies like salsa dancing and rock climbing.
Services
Individual Counseling
Couples Counseling
Child/Adolescent Therapy
Individual counseling allows you the room to explore your internal landscape–places of pain and tension, meaning and purpose, deeper longings and hope. In individual therapy you will begin to recognize patterns and ways of functioning that you may choose to leave behind, and you will discover the things that bring you a sense of peace and joy.
Couples counseling offers a neutral space for those in relationship to more openly express their feelings, concerns, and needs. I help couples to develop practices that improve communication, deepen emotional connection, and foster sustainable rhythms through everyday life and major transitions.
In the therapeutic process with children and young people, I value the use of play, art, and storytelling. These are powerful tools for expression and processing, and are often the way that children and young people best communicate.

"The breeze at dawn has secrets to tell you. Don’t go back to sleep. Be patient where you sit in the dark. The dawn is coming."
- Rumi
What you can expect
Our body is our companion for life, and all too often we abandon ourselves. We wrestle with the tension of decisions, unwanted thoughts and feelings, rifts in relationships, and deep longings for wholeness and connection. We try to reconcile these things as best as we know how, but sometimes we leave ourselves behind in the process–neglecting our needs, losing sight of our values, and sacrificing our own peace, comfort, and joy. My hope is to support you as you discover what brings you life and how to live at home within your true self and the world around you in a way that is sustainable.
Personalized Approach
When incorporating various therapeutic tools and practices, I consider your unique needs, background, values, cultural context, relationships, spirituality and religion, living environment, work context, roles, and the important aspects of your life that impact your well-being and the way you see the world. I collaborate with you to figure out which practices and rhythms are most fitting and beneficial for you.
Holistic Lens – Mind, Body, Spirit
Compassionate Care
While utilizing traditional talk therapy, I also incorporate mindfulness and creative art practices into my work with clients to allow them to connect with their mind, body, and spirit as we process experiences and feelings that we may not always have the language for.
Therapy can look many different ways, and I find that this work is most successful when your voice is heard and valued. I strive to keep the line of communication open as we move through the therapeutic process to ensure that we are moving in the direction and pace that works best for you.

Modalities
Psychodynamic
Psychodynamic therapy involves uncovering and understanding how repressed feelings are impacting your present decision-making, thought and emotional patterns, and relationships.
Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)
The aim of ACT is to increase psychological flexibility by increasing your awareness and tolerance of the range of emotions and thoughts that you experience, instead of expending energy trying to avoid, dismiss, or change them. ACT also helps you become more perceptive of your actions and choices that are aligned or misaligned with your values.
Attachment-based Therapy
Attachment-based therapy looks at your earliest connections with caregivers and how they impact the relationships you form as an adult. The goal with attachment-based therapy is to gain awareness of your emotional, behavioral, and communication patterns and cultivate more healthy and secure ways of connecting to others.
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
Emotionally Focused Therapy examines the interactions that take place between individuals within a relationship. The EFT process involves identifying the unmet needs and unexpressed emotions that lead to cycles of conflict and disconnection. Together, partners can learn ways to more effectively share their emotions with one another and extend more compassionate support towards each other. This leads to an increased emotional bond, understanding, and healthy functioning within the relationship.
